As Radon fans reach the end of their lifespan, they begin to make a variety of unusual noises during the various stages of progressive failure. When Radon fans reach this stage, they should be turned off and replaced.
Radon fan vibration is an indication of bearing failure. Residential Radon fans typically run at or above 3000 RPM. As Radon fan bearings wear, the space between them increases. This causes an imbalance in blades, leading to Radon system vibration.
Humming sounds from your Radon mitigation system usually stem from vibration in the Radon fan. The age of the fan, weather conditions and Radon systems extracting through Sump systems can also cause Humming in your Radon system.
If your Radon mitigation system is making a grinding noise, the fan should be shut down and replaced. This is generally the final stage of bearing failure and blade seizure is imminent.
Gurgling in a Radon system occurs when suction draws air through water. This is often caused by improperly sloped pipes, causing an accumulation of condensation, which reduces operational volume. It can also be caused by a sump pump failure.
If the fluid levels are even in your Manometer (System Indicator), your Radon fan is not running. If you have checked to make sure the fan is turned on and fluid levels still even, call for service.

Radon systems today experience very few problems and generally do a fantastic job of operating well beyond their service and manufacturer warranties. However, common issues can and do arise on occasion. Unusual sound or noises emanating from your Radon system may include, grinding, humming, vibration, gurgling or simply louder than normal operation. If you are experiencing unusual sounds from your radon mitigation system or notice the fluid levels are even in your system indicator also known as a monometer, we strongly advise you turn your fan off and call a licensed Radon professional.
